The Playground - A creative climbing centre for children
Queensferry, Scotland
Year 3 Undergraduate year long project
STUDIO: SPHERICAL ENTANGLEMENTSA climbing centre for children in Queensferry and Edinburgh, offering two distinct facilities: a traditional bouldering area and a crochet climbing playground. The design amplifies freedom, creativity, and imagination, shaping a utopian, boundless space for children.
Envisioned as a dynamic indoor playground, it caters to each child individually through bouldering and art-making activities. The flexible, organic nature of crochet is mirrored in the building’s external form with a timber woven roof and surrounding landscape, thoughtfully integrating with and protecting the site’s historically rich structures as disused Navy barracks.

Our design adapts the circular typology by splitting it in half, placing the delivery and post-delivery areas on opposite sides. This layout symbolizes the “circle of life,” with the birth of new life on one end and the continuation of life on the other. The naturally curved walls not only soften the room edges but also creates an intimate and comfortable spaces for mothers to rest and recuperate.
Staying Afloat Microhome

“Staying Afloat” is a microhomes concept, a future thinking proposal for mobile single-storey floating dwelling emerging as a symbol of sustainable future living on flood prone areas. Designed to be folding and flexible to suit neighbourhood clusters, it’s interchangeable form could position itself equally on narrow waterways, with its linear configuration, or on wider rivers with a folding triangular plan.
